I have a ceiling fan with a defective remote control. I want to see if I can convert it to use an ESP8266 MCU as the controller.

I found this article that might be relevant, it's fancy, has a PIC processor do a zero crossing controller.

In my case I'd like to use the existing controller if I can come up with a way to do that. I just want to tear out whatever RF thingie they have in there and replace it.

It would be lovely if I could reuse the existing AC parts including the DC power supply.
