This is not a blog. It is a page describing my attempts at merging my Mediawiki-based sites with Wordpress software.
Why not stick with the wiki?
I will for my own "lab notebook" here on Wildsong.biz but I need something on http://GEO-CEG.org/ too. The wiki on Geo-CEG will be used as a documentation repository.
I also need to consider bbPress which is a Wordpress forum software package.
My requirements
Workflow management would be great
Database backed? Don't care, text only would be fine
Roles and authentication - someday an OAUTH2 thing would be great but I have enough on my plate already. I want the two packages (wiki and blog) to use the same MySQL database for now.
Software
General reference on wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blog_software I tried a bunch of different packages out and ended up staying with Wordpress.
It is installed but now I need to integrate WP and Mediawiki. I don't want all the Mediawiki URL's to break. I want to have a WP front page with access to the old content undisturbed.
So I guess that means the top level index.php page has to be smart enough to know what to do.
Having single sign on for both systems would be nice but not important since only 2 or 3 people actually do edits in the wiki part. Allowing discussion pages is a big goal.
Wordpress + Mediawiki integration options
Here are some of them.
package | comments | link | updated |
Wiki Embed | embed any wiki content in wp 9000 downloads 4 stars |
http://wordpress.org/plugins/welcomewiki-lite/ | 2013-08-13 |
Wikiful Mediawiki Bridge | 3500 downloads 4 stars | http://wordpress.org/plugins/wikiful/ | 2013 |
WPMW | This one looks good so far | http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:WPMW | 2013-08-05 |
