Currently I have Bitwarden accounts, great for normal people, sigh. We have a family account. I paid the $10 and found out the upgrade affected only my login. They want another $10 for Julie.
I wonder also how long before a breach? So I am migrating to Vaultwarden, the self-hosted version.
There is an official opensource release but it uses more resources so I am trying out this one. It worked for Clatsop County so I think it should be okay for two people.
How I expect things to go:
- Export data from Bitwarden to files.
- Spin up Vaultwarden in Docker.
- Create accounts.
- Import data.
Export
Docker setup
This is easy, since it's the preferred way to host Vaultwarden.
I am using a Cloudflare zero trust tunnel.
Create a hostname for the new server. Set that up in Cloudflare.
Account creation
One for Julie, one for me.
Import
Test
Make sure TOTP works
Make sure access from outside works
Back up
Protect the data by copying it out somewhere in a human readable format. Like, to a thumb drive that I can carry with me at all times.
