A soundscape is a multichannel audio environment where "multi" not just TWO.

Existing examples

The only one I know about is Audium.

Audium

Audium is still operating in San Francisco. They have been doing performances since 1964. This is amazing to me. Julie and I attended a performance around 1980.

169 speakers in a dome.

The amazing all digital home audium

I have wanted my own Audium since before I had even heard of them.

I wonder how many audio cards I can put in a single PC. Each 5.1 card has 6 channels, so I could do a pretty fair imitation with just 3 cards to give me 18 channels.

For starters I have 3 old cards plus motherboard to give me 8 channels.

I need 8 self-powered speakers. I have four now, plus a stereo amp with 2 more channels so 6 total.

I can do a 6 channel system right away. Just need to put two sound cards in this HP Vectra. The third slot can hold a WiFi card.

Using the Axim as a controller via WiFi would be fun.
