This is a VOIP phone running Android 4.2.2.

I have 2 of them. They are quite fun.

History

  • 2019-02-25 Current firmware: 1.0.3.219
  • 2019-02-25 factory reset (lost password!) Firmware is at 1.0.3.187
  • 2015 or so bought them for Vastra.

Upgrades

See http://www.grandstream.com/support/firmware/

The good parts

  • I can play music on it. For the details, refer to Streaming media
  • I can put it in page/intercom mode.
  • It can do video calls!
  • Audio quality is fantastic.

The bad parts

Google Play Store

2019-02-25 -- When I did the factory reload I did not put Google Play Store into the phones, they are just phones to me right now.

A potential fix for this STUPID ANNOYING update bug is here http://android.stackexchange.com/questions/48694/how-can-i-stop-google-play-from-automatically-updating

Currently the version of "Play Store" is 5.3.36 (I think that's right) and it crashes every time I try to install an app!

I downloaded the APK for an older version (5.2.13) and put it on my Web server. Then I browsed to it and downloaded it to the phone. Then I installed it by clicking on it in the Downloads app.

It works! I quickly go into its settings menu and turn off automatic updates.

I install an app! It works!

I go back 2 minutes later, find another app, and... it has been updated!! Gag me! Right now the only work around I have for this is to keep the APK in Downloads and reinstall it.
