Revision as of 02:10, 10 March 2022
I'm living in Astoria. It rains here. All the time.
I think I will name this bike "Moss".
Initial component specs October 2021
- Soma Wolverine "B" Moss Green 56CM -- finally back in stock February 2022
- Soma Wolverine unicrown fork, also green
- Rohloff 500/14 Speedhub (32 hole) with Co-motion shifter
- DT Swiss 350 front hub (32 hole) 15mm through axle centerlock disc
- [https://www.velocityusa.com/product/rims/quill-622 Velocity Quill
rims 32 hole black 700C, ERD 589
- DT Swiss Competition 2.0 double butted spokes
- DT Swiss 12mm nipples
- Magura MT-8 Pro Carbon hydraulic disc brakes
- Magura Storm 160mm rotors
- Gates CDX sprocket stainless steel 19t
- Gates Carbon Drive CDX belt 155t x 1265mm
- Weird kind of drop bars with 31.8mm center section
- Continental Gatorskin black 700x28 tires
- Continental standard tubes
- Interloc Racing Design 1-1/8" headset
- Dimension stem 80mm x 83/97 degree 31.8mm
- Ritchey classic 2 bolt seatpost 27.2mm x 350mm
- Thomson seatpost clamp 29.8mm
- Fenders, I think I have a set leftover from the Raleigh Alyeska
- Rear rack? The Davidson Discovery set up with a small rack and Carradice bag has been great. I have many frames in storage right now. Maybe the Tubus that came on the Longbikes Slipstream?
Bottom bracket + crankset?
I still need to finalize the bottom bracket and crankset and chainring. The issue is picking parts that will give me the correct chainline for whatever frame I get.
Dropouts and hangers
I am inclined at some point to replace the derailleur hanger with (https://www.paragonmachineworks.com/hangers-inserts/adjustable-dropouts/10-mm-right-side-insert-for-sliding-dropout-no-hanger-choose-color.html a simpler one). According to (https://www.mtbr.com/threads/info-on-soma-tange-ird-adjustable-dropouts-analog-juice-b-side-wolverine.962971/ this MTBR link) I can use any (https://www.paragonmachineworks.com/hangers-inserts/inserts.html Paragon Machine Works sliding dropout inserts) with the Soma Interloc/Tange dropouts. This is good information.
The (https://www.paragonmachineworks.com/faqs/adjustable-dropouts.html Paragon website has excellent technical information), the Tange and Interloc sites have nothing. Soma has the specs I needed to start learning and ordering parts.
Hardware
qty usage size 4 Dropouts M8 x 1.25 x 18 mm
racks and fenders
water bottles - glass filled fiberglass, 100 for $17 tensile strength 27,000 - these are to fill the extra holes and be impervious to water and very light. 6 in the frame and 6 in the fork
M5 x 10mm PMW $4.45 MC grade2 socket head $3.19, cap head grade 5 $11
Ti screws can take higher torque, which makes them good for the dropout hangers.
There are no button head screws from McMaster. SS with tensile strength 70,000 would be $11 for 25 screws. Hex head (which I can't use) Ti are $14 each and tensile strength 130,000
Ever had a critical SS screw break off? Hmm I have... Ti is far stronger...
