Dang! Wordpress is very popular. I think I will give it a try
I tried a bunch of different packages out and ended up staying with Wordpress.

These are available on Hostmonster making them very easy for me to test.
It is installed but now I need to integrate WP and Mediawiki.
Only it turns out that I tried to install Wordpress and it ''failed'', so I ended up installing it from the download from wordpress.org.
I don't want all the Mediawiki URL's to break. I want to have a WP front page with access to the old content undisturbed.
It was VERY easy to do manually.

Investigating blogging software

Why not stick with the wiki?

I probably will for my own rough notes here on Wildsong.biz but I need something on http://GEO-CEG.org/

Mostly I want a format that allows me to develop ideas on pages that are not public and then publish them when they are ready to go.

Options

  • hosted like "blogger" google again jeez cant get away from them
  • roll my own, can you see where this is going

Okay, so it's roll-my-own

My requirements

Workflow management would be great

Database backed? Don't care, text only would be fine

Roles - would be good but not very important

Software

General reference on wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blog_software I tried a bunch of different packages out and ended up staying with Wordpress.

It is installed but now I need to integrate WP and Mediawiki. I don't want all the Mediawiki URL's to break. I want to have a WP front page with access to the old content undisturbed.

So I guess that means the top level index.php page has to be smart enough to know what to do.

Having single sign on for both systems would be nice but not important since only 2 or 3 people actually do edits in the wiki part. Allowing discussion pages is a big goal.
