How I use it

  • Keeping my library there so I can have my books wherever I am.
  • Using it on my phone so I can automatically upload and share pictures from my camera.
  • Keeping a Geo-CEG folder there so the members can share business files.
  • Running it on Bellman a server at home so I always have access from my server and home desktop.
  • Using it on Stellar to have books synced on my laptop for those long offline trips to mom-in-law's house.
  • Running it on Swift my wife's Airbook with her own account, so that she and I can share files easily.
  • At work it runs on a Linux/Samba server so I can access the files on any desktop.

Set up on Linux

Normally it runs on any computer only when you are logged in. I want it to run on my servers all the time.

Official command line installation: https://www.dropbox.com/install?os=lnx Better instructions: http://xavicuevas.tumblr.com/post/19687600157/install-dropbox-on-ubuntu-server-10-11

This does not really run all the time, it runs when you tell it to. They leave it up to you to figure that out. You can start it one time like this. It will start in Nautilus on Bellman, so I am okay there.
